Description of the trip

There are two ways to get from Guayaquil to Quito, one is by airplane on a 30 minute straight flight, and the other is by bus on an approximately 7 hour trip.

If you select the latter, the trip will begin at 15 feet over sea level. During the ride, you cross Los Andes mountain range, climbing up the mountains up to 12,000 feet height. At this point, the view shows to be more deserted a distinctive change in vegetation and development of animal life due to the low temperatures.

During the trip, you may observe the difference in vegetation, animal life and geography between the Coast and Sierra Regions. You can see a variety of cattle, beautiful landscapes, magnificent mountain tops and even the type of houses built.

The road crosses through a number of small towns. Each one shows its own characteristics.

At the time of arrival to Quito, you may observe the natural beauty of the city: warm valleys surrounded by tall mountains. One of them is the magnificent Pichincha Volcano.

Southern Quito maintains its old colonial architecture, narrow stone streets, old churches which keep inside master pieces of paintings and sculptures. For all these reasons, Quito is declared to be Mankind Cultural Heritage. The Government Palace also known as Carondelet Palace which is the home of the President of Ecuador is also located in this area.

Northern Quito, on the other hand, has experienced a modern growth. Characteristics of this urban area are: tall office buildings, wide avenues, modern means of transportation, nice and spacious parks, elegant commercial centers, hotels of different categories and restaurants that serve a variety of exquisite French, Spanish, Japanese or typical Ecuadorian dishes.
