Known as the “Capital of Biodiversity”, Puerto Maldonado is one of the best alternatives to enjoy the Amazon Jungle of Peru. Because of its close location to Cuzco and its important protected areas (Tambopata Candamo, Pampas de Heath, Bajuaja Sonene and Manú), the Puerto Maldonado Jungle is a real and natural paradise. During the Colony some expeditions commanded by Juan Alvarez arrived, and in 1861 Coronel Faustino Maldonado crossed the “Madre de Dios” river entirely. It was founded in 1902. Being its ecosystem menaced and in danger because of the rubber fever at the beginning of the past century, and the demographic growth as a result of the gold exploitation in the 1970s, this privileged region continues to be one of the most virgin jungles of this planet. Nowadays, this region lives on tourism as well as gold and wood exploitation.

Geography and Location:
Capital City of the department of Madre de Dios, 535 Km away from Cuzco and 1.631 Km away from Lima.
Entrance to Puerto Maldonado is done by air, daily departures from Lima and Cuzco, and by land from Cuzco; the second is not recommended.

PEM - A - 001
ECOAMAZONIA LODGE
3 Days - 2 Nights

1st Day: IN MALDONADO
Arrival to Puerto Maldonado, reception and transport to the City, short lecture and leisure time. Meeting at the jetty to board the motorized boat that will take us to the Lodge “Ecoamazonia”, crossing the “Madre de Dios” River. Lunch. Visit to the “Monkey” island; along the way we will appreciate the flora diversity, and the fauna. There we will see different species of Monkeys in their natural habitat. Return to the Lodge. Typical- dinner. Overnight.
2nd Day : COCHA PERDIDA
Breakfast. Wallk inside the virgin island. In this contact with the jungle we will enjoy watching the enormous trees, medicinal plants, a variety of insects, calling our attention the diversity of butterflies. Once arriving at COCHA PERDIDA, the perfect hiding place for the giant otter (just a little portion of the ancient town remains until today). At the edge of the Cocha is located our extraordinary observatory “MIRADOR PANORAMICO”. From there we will enjoy its amazon landscape. Lunch returning to the lodge. After dinner, we will have a night tour to watch caimans.
3rd Day: MALDONADO OUT
Breakfast. Transport to the airport of Pto. Maldonado. Return flight to Lima.
This program includes:
Transports airport-jetty-airport, fluvial transport to the Lodge. Full meals provided in the camp site, guided excursions as described in the program (with bilingual guides), and double room accommodation with private bathroom.

ADDITIONAL DAY AT THE JUNGLE:
Tour around the “Gamitana” river.
Additional Day

It Includes: accommodation, full meals and activities in the jungle. We will sail along the “Gamitana” river emerging in the heart of the jungle with an astonishing flora and fauna. Then we will go on a little canoe so that we could appreciate the fauna around the river such as turtles, caimans, butterflies etc. Its surroundings offer us a variety of plants; fascinating landscape and an extraordinary meander fall. Snacks and return to the lodge after a short rest.

CUZCO AMAZONICO LODGE
3 days - 2 nights
1st Day: IN MALDONADO
Transport to the airport, short visit to the City, trek to the fluvial port of “Madre de Dios” river. Boarding on motorized canoe and trip to the Lodge (especially built by natives). Lunch. 2 hour-trek in the jungle full of exuberant fauna and flora. Criolla food and overnight at the lodge.
2nd Day: SANDOVAL LAKE
Breakfast. Trip to “Madre de Dios “ river and 1 1/2 hour-Trek to the Sandoval Lake. Trip around the lake to watch the rich flora and fauna on site. On the way back we may see remains of a vessel attributed to Fitzcarrald. Lunch at Lodge. Afternoon visit to a small farm or smallholding, which allows us to see the wide variety of amazon crops. Typical Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.
3rd Day: MALDONADO OUT
After having a continental breakfast, transport to the airport.
