Description of the trip

Baños location is reached by land. The trip takes 4 to 5 hours approximately leaving from Guayaquil.
As you leave the coast region, the Andes Mountain Range can be seen. It is quite a climb to 12,000 feet of height. During the climb, you may observe and clearly distinguish the different vegetation of the Coast and Sierra regions due to the characteristic climates. Abundant cattle and beautiful landscapes of the impressive mountain tops will catch your attention. At the highest altitude, however; the landscape will seem arid because the low temperatures do not allow the development of vegetation or animal life.
Two interesting towns are in the way. The first one is Riobamba, with a breathtaking surrounding landscape of the highest mountains; one of them is the highest in the world, the Chimborazo reaching an outstanding altitude of 18,600 feet. This town is also a stop for trying a delicious typical dish made of baked pork.
The second location is Ambato known as the land of the flowers and fruits because the kindness of this land allows for the harvest of an uncountable variety of them. Delight yourself with traditional bread rolls made by the locals.
The entrance to Baños is announced by the appearance of the smoking Tungurahua Volcano which became active a few years ago. Baños is settled on a beautiful valley with a pleasant climate right at the slope of the volcano.
The volcano provides thermal streams which are rich in minerals. There are bathing pools where visitors may enjoy the benefits of this water. Even though Baños is an ideal place for relaxation and leisure away from the busy city environment, it also offers several exciting and extreme activities, for instance hiking through the mountain passages, rafting, bungee jumping, rappel, horseback riding and biking.
For all these reasons Baños is considered as the number one choice for tourist destination in Ecuador.
